Members of the Pittsburgh Threshold Choir sing in groups of two or three at the bedsides of hospice patients and other who are very ill or dying. We work with a number of hospices in Allegheny County and will also respond to individual requests when we can. Members of the Pittsburgh Threshold Choir who sang for patients at the Lawrenceville inpatient unit on May 8 were surprised to find volunteer coordinator Nick Petti waiting for them with a bouquet and a proclamation. Nick was there to present Cindy Harris with the annual "Heart of Hospice" award given by Family Hospice to a volunteer who exemplifies the essence of the care Family Hospice intends to provide to their patients.

The Edmonton Chapter of Threshold Choir practices while a volunteer lays down to experience what being on the receiving end of the service is like. CTV News Edmonton. A new choir formed in Edmonton is part of an international movement to provide joy through music. Calling it a service—not a performance—choir, founder Valda Roberts said the movement caught her attention when she saw a video of a choir singing at the bedside of a terminal patient. The choirs sing in three-part harmonies so they travel in groups of three, bringing their own stools to sit on when they perform in hospitals and hospices. When they sing to comfort patients and their families, the experience is powerful, said member Cheryl Nickurak. How familiar are you with that? But this is no performance choir.
